Seniors from Shah Alam Club in an inter-club tennis tournament, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah |
Enter the
wonderful world of sizzling tennis,
Seniors can
play well into their seventies,
It provides
a good workout for all parts of the body.
Forget about
singles, concentrate on doubles,
Play safe
and strategic tennis where possible,
After all,
you want to be happy and healthy.
Play
regularly at least twice a week,
Players of
the same standard you should seek,
Be generous
and considerate in sharing balls and court.
Invest in a
reliable racquet and good support shoes,
Wear
suitable apparel, comfortable and loose,
In victory
or defeat, thank each other and be a good sport.
Wear suitable apparel, comfortable and loose |
Praise and
support your partner during play,
But do not
direct or coach along the way,
Relax, stay
cool, just keep the ball spinning.
Scream or
shout if you must, it's good for the lungs,
Smile at
your unforced errors, everyone errs at least once!
You need to
keep the blood circulating, not boiling.
Occasionally,
join friendly inter-club competitions,
Or have
holidays with tennis as the main attraction,
Enjoy
playing on different surfaces and meeting new faces.
Read books
and magazines for the latest information,
Watch top
players in Grand Slam tournaments,
Marvel at
Sampras as he goes places with his aces.
Sometimes,
after a fun-filled invigorating game,
Have cosy
get-togethers while in that happy frame,
Foster
friendly relations as you dine together.
You may not
play like veteran John McEnroe,
But your
health and enthusiasm will sizzle and glow
As you race
round the court in genuine delight and pleasure.

Now in 2015, we would be admiring Djokovic and
Federer as they go places with their aces.
